Lvp For Bathroom

Thoughts on LVP in a bathroom?

I hear a lot of people saying LVP is great for areas that do or may get wet but haven't actually spoke to anyone who has this stuff in a bathroom. I'm redoing my master bath and was going to possibly use wood plank ceramic tiles but was kicking the vinyl idea around also just for ease of installation mainly. Anyone have any input on this?

It's in my master bath - put down Coretec Plus HD specifically because of the waterproof nature and also I like the built-in cork underlayment. We started out looking at wood-look ceramic tile and once we learned more about the LVP, we kicked the tile idea to the curb. The planks are way easier than laying tile; actually fun to do. This is a quick pic I took - one of these days I might write up a post on the project I completed a few months ago.

Thanks for the response and pic it looks great, good job. I think this is the way I will go.

just installed this in one of my bathrooms. its only been there 2 weeks so time will tell if it was a good choice, but it was ridiculously easy to install and is supposed to be waterproof so... seemed like the best choice. price was nice too. i went with lifeproof in (i think) sterling oak... or stoney gray... not 100% sure. anyway, laid over top ex. linoleum, about 25 sqft, took maybe 3 hours... because of all the cuts.

That's great to hear I've heard it was easy to install. Think this is my best option

It's pretty much ideal. None of the problems/maintenance of grout but all the water resistance.

I'd like to introduce you to something called epoxy grout. It's virtually maintenance free.

Installed in our master bath several years ago to replace carpet. Why the builder/previous owner ever put carpet in bath I'll never understand. Thankfully there was tile under the toilet. It looks great and was easy to install. One tip, make sure the floor is completely clean of all little particles as they will show as small dimples in the vinyl. I have a few little spots from where the tile was busted out and little particles must have been on the floor. No one would notice but me since I did the work. You will like the look and feel on your feet.

Nice, glad to hear from someone who's had it down for a while with no problems. I'll jeep that in mind when laying these.

Just ordered Lifeproof Lighthouse Oak to replace the carpet the previous owners put in the master bath, will let you know how it goes. I originally was going to do ceramic tile but decided the vinyl planks would be better. Reason I went with vinyl plank:

  • Inexpensive, most of the Lifeproof stuff is ~$70-80 for ~20sq feet boxes.

  • Easy to install, no glueing, underlay is already on the planks.

  • Waterproof

  • Feels better on bare feet if you don't have floor heating

  • We liked the wood look

I thought only glue down is waterproof? Even if it's one of the click-type with a waterproof core layer, won't water still get underneath it?

In our new construction home, we actually decided to use LVP in the bathroom over more trendy ceramic tiles, partially to maintain continuity throughout the house (LVP everywhere except the bedrooms, which are carpeted), partially due to them being waterproof, but also because it's a warmer feel than the tile. Additionally, a lot of the ceramic tile had texture to prevent it from getting too slippery, but that texture holds dirt and it murder on mops. A friend recently redid his home with wood look ceramic and has some regrets...

That's good to note. I was looking at LVP the other day and was leaning towards the more textured types because it would hide s scratch better, but to your point, it's also going to be a lot harder to clean.
